- Sun Protection Is Key – Excessive sun exposure can result in wrinkles, sun spots and other more serious issues such as skin cancer. It is important to use proper sun protection when you are exposed to the sun’s rays. As much as possible try to avoid sun exposure from 10 am to 4 pm. If this is not an option, you should wear protective clothing such as a long-sleeved shirt or pants and sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15.
- Avoid Smoking – In general, smoking will make your skin appear older. This happens because smoking constricts the blood vessels found on the outer layer of your skin. This decrease in blood flow on your skin also decreases the amount of oxygen and nutrients that are vital to your skin’s health. Smoking also decreases the amount of collagen and elastin. This decreases your skin’s elasticity and strength.
- Adapt a Gentle Skin Regimen – Too much harsh shaving and cleansing can actually damage and dry out your skin. It is important that you do not over scrub your skin since this will only damage it. You should also limit your bath time and opt for warm water instead of hot. For your face especially, you should use a mild cleanser instead of harsh soaps. When drying your skin you should pat it dry instead of rubbing it vigorously. Never forget to use cream and lotion when shaving.
- Manage Stress – Excessive stress can be detrimental to your skin causing premature wrinkles and acne breakouts. For healthy skin you should avoid stress. Scale back your to-do-list and have time to do activities you enjoy and to just relax. Your skin will be much healthier and glowing when you are less stressed.
- Eating a Healthy Diet – Eating more healthily will not only make your skin glow but you will also feel better overall. You should try to eat the proper quantities of fruits, vegetables, wheat, grains and lean protein. Though the correlation between diet and acne has not yet been established, certain research has determined that a diet rich in vitamin C and low in processed carbohydrates can promote healthy and glowing skin.
